Higgott-Kane

Higgott-KaneHiggott-Kane and ATCO Noise Management have allocated all necessary resources in acoustical engineering analysis software and qualified personnel to meet the challenge of designing modern gas turbine silencing systems for the most advanced engines and demanding conditions and specifications.

The structural analysis program STAAD is used in the design of steel support structures for our silencing systems and stacks.  The thermo-mechanical analysis of exhaust systems and heat exchangers is performed to evaluate thermal performance and structural integrity with respect to plastic deformation, buckling and fatigue utilizing the finite element program ANSYS.

The company has developed a wide variety of unique turbine silencer designs that meet the most stringent noise specifications.  They may include, for example, multistage silencer designs with vibration breaks to limit flanking paths of noise, and isolated liner systems to reduce casing radiated noise.

BlueprintModels have been developed to optimize stiffener design and system anchorage for all design conditions.

Particular attention is paid to critical components, like acoustical baffle supports for extremely hot and fast turbine exhaust flows of the most advanced large turbines.  This component underwent significant research & development effort in the recent past and is under patent protection.

The acoustical analysis of silencing components placed in the turbine gas path is based on the NOISECALC proprietary software package, calibrated by experience of over a thousand acoustical designs and producing reliable results for most critical installations.  An extensive and on-going effort in data acquisition is accomplished utilizing another proprietary “state-of-the-art” tool.

The successful multi-year track record of our acoustical designs, rigorous aerodynamic and acoustic testing in laboratories and actual field installations, dependable proprietary acoustical design software and superior expertise of our multi-disciplined (acoustical, mechanical and structural) engineering department allow Higgott-Kane to guarantee performance of its turbine inlet and exhaust silencers with total confidence.
